Patterns of Resistance: Henna
Patterns of Resistance is an ongoing body of research exploring henna as an artistic medium and a cultural practice. Through drawing, making, community workshops, and collaborative projects, I investigate the rich histories of henna as it moves across cultures, geographies, and generations.
I am interested in henna's role in celebration, ritual, healing, storytelling, and community, as well as the knowledge it carries through families. My research explores how henna provides for connection and cultural continuity, while also examining its material and tactile properties such as texture and smell as well it’s historical uses.
I develop original henna designs that brings together illustration, cultural research, and socially engaged art. Through henna, I explore themes of identity, resistance, belonging, and self expression, considering how a traditional art form can continue to adapt, and connect people across communities.
