Ananse Mek It!

This project draws on the story of Ananse, a folk hero from the African and Caribbean diaspora, often depicted as half-human, half-spider. Born into wisdom but destined to lose it, Ananse’s journey is one of searching, learning, and discovering what was lost.

Through a series of workshops with elders and primary school children, we co-created a set of films. The process was collaborative and intergenerational, shaped by shared storytelling and lived experience. I worked alongside artists Ma’at á Nkemi and Josie Owen.

Caribbean Elders Remember

This short animation captures a visit to the Pepper Pot Centre in Ladbroke Grove, London, where we came together to share Ananse stories and listen to memories of growing up in the Caribbean. Over food, drink, and song, we celebrated the traditional stories that lay the foundation for future generations.

Is Ananse Mek It

In this film, I worked with primary school children to bring Ananse’s story to life through fun, colourful collages. We dove into the story, experimenting with how images can capture everything from mystery to mischief. We brainstormed, got messy with materials, and discovered how to tell a story visually!
